How bad is the traffic on 287 coming from Randolph to Somerville around 5 pm? Map Quest reports it should take about 45 minutes. Would you say this is accurate? Is there a better route to take with less traffic?

Thanks!!

I'd probably suggest getting off at Exit 26 and taking Mt Airy->Allen->Somerville->Washington Valley->Brown->Papen->Mine->Foothill->N Bridge St. (which has an overpass over 287 and 22), and that'll put you in downtown Somerville with very little traffic. That should be reliably 45min unless there's some issue getting out to 287 up in the Randolph area, I'm less familiar with the situation up there.

It's a lot of turns, but they're quick roads other than a light or two getting out of Bernards.

------------------------

If you're going to take 202/206SB from 287, it's completely miserable and I can't recommend enough to not take that route. But at the very least get off at the first turn-off for Commons Way, take that around to 22E, and then take the first right that you can get over in time to take. You probably won't be able to make N. Bridge Street, but you should be able to make Grove or N. Gaston.

If you screw all that up and wind up trying to get around the Somerville Circle at rush hour? Bring a book, you're going to be there a while....

I live in morristown. To me, 287 is a parking lot both north and south at 5pm.
While crossing over on local roads, it's just bumper to bumper most days.
I'd be surprised if it wouldn't be like 60-75 minutes.

Thanks!

I actually know how to take the back roads from Randolph to Bernards via Tempe Wick Rd. so I may try your suggestion from Bernards to Somerville so the whole thing is backroad and see how it treats me tomorrow.
Any other thoughts?

^^ That's your best bet. I'd guess 50 minutes.
