For Carteret I would suggest looking around closer such as Clark you mentioned or Rahway. That would make it a local ride instead of having to deal with highways and tolls, etc.

Yes, Yonkers is pretty much the same as most of North Jersey except higher taxes. I would plan on buying a two family or three family home somewhere down the line. So this is why I am asking about these types of neighborhoods. And just to make a point, there is a difference between blue collar and a run down slum/ghetto.
