Southern most NJ, the area along the Delaware Bay. Check out the New Jersey Coastal Heritage Trail. A State of NJ designed road trip. Lots to see, drive as fast our as slow as you want.
just FYI... Morristown is definitely not "NW" jersey... since it's more east than it is west. it's closer to NYC than to those mountains in the NW. calling it "north central" could work though
Was that in response to me? I know it's not NWNJ having lived in the area most of my life.
I just saw that someone else mentioned Morristown and decided to mention it too.
There are tons of areas I like to refer to as "Hidden Jersey" but my favorite is definitely the Pine Barrens. Drive down 542 or 563 in Burlington County or 539 in Ocean County. The scenery is quite a treat. Also agree with the suggestions pointing to Delaware Bay - the drive to Fortescue is beautiful as well.

Oh they know all about it. Why do you think North Jersey folks always used to stereotype us as being a bunch of backwards woodsy hicks?
North NJ is the most over-rated area to live. You see countless threads with people only recommending NNJ but in reality it's a crowded and expensive place to live. Homes are super expensive there and property taxes are ridiculous. I often read that $13k property taxes is considered cheap there but down by Central NJ, $13k is on the high side. $600k gets you an avg home in parts of NNJ but in CNJ you can get a big house in a good area.

It all depends where you work. I work in Essex County so I chose to live in Essex County. I have a nice stress-free 10 minute drive into work. You can't put a price on that convenience. A guy in my office lives in Middlesex County and it takes him at least 90 minutes to drive up here every morning. One day last week it took him 3 hours because of some accident on the Turnpike. I don't care how much cheaper houses are there, there's no way I would do that commute. There are a lot more jobs in NNJ/NYC than other parts of the state, so that's why you see so many people living in and recommending this area. If I had to choose between a big house/long commute or smaller house/shorter commute, I would choose the smaller house/shorter commute every time.

CNJ is growing at a faster pace than both NNJ and SNJ because all the space here is being used to build Amazon warehouses, more datacenters, work hubs, etc.
Minus Jersey City, NNJ does not have that much jobs. New Brunswick is a good work hub much easier to get in/out than that mess of a commute area of JC. If they keep throwing condos and towers in Hoboken area instead of building roads it will be a commute nightmare with just the PATH, light rail, and JC Transit. If Newark gets cleaned up finally one day it will surpass JC for sure.
I once had a stress free commute from Union to Edison but the pay wasn't that great it's all relative.
NNJ can't grow faster than other parts of NJ because there's not enough space and Blue law hurts businesses.
