Hi all,

I've seen a few posts on commute times from NY to East Brunswick, but was wondering if anyone had any experience with rush hour commute (I have to be in office by 8:15am or 7:30) from Brooklyn, specifically Bay ridge? Google maps says 45 minutes but I can tell that probably is a stretch.

I'm trying to see if commuting by car would be feasible, otherwise if anyone knew of any establishments with short-term lease options or extended stay hotels that are considered to be safe and not too expensive? Looking for a studio or 1 bedroom as I would only be there for 3 months.

Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much!

It's better coming from Brooklyn than going to it. The Turnpike south shouldn't be a problem. It'll be the mess over the Verranzano & through SI that I'd worry about.

I bet lots of people do it anyway. Seriously I had 2 bosses over the years that worked in NJ offices and lived in Bay Ridge. There are also toll discount plans for the Port Authority bridges so its about half price going back over from the USA to NY.

It takes a certain amount of time maybe from 45 minutes to twice that but you will have to find out by doing it. Taking the West Shore down to Outerbridge puts you closer to East Brunswick and minimizes using the TollPike. I hate using toll facilities so usually at least my return trip and often both ways I do toll free just to not be enslaved to any toll roads.

Here's a suggestion from Eeeeevil Deeeeemon Racist Google Maps:

https://www.google.com/maps/dir/East...38!2m1!2b1!3e0

Going either of those there is only one toll each way. Note it is possible to go from Brooklyn to NJ toll free also but adds a bit of mileage going across lower Manhattan and out the Holland hole-in-the-wall to the GSP and down.

Also I see going across the "flats" of Sayreville saves a few miles and I bet avoids a lot of Rt 1 traffic or Turnpike jams.
