You did something wrong with your numbers. For $100K (taxable income), the difference in NYS and NJ are about $800 a YEAR. Sure you didnt put in city taxes?

Plus if you will work for a big company, they probably have it set up so your $1K in path tickets are tax deductable

I would consider your long-term career plans, as well as if the working culture suits you (do they expect longer hours than your current job?), and what other benefits are (e.g., bonus, PTO/vacation days, health insurance, 401k, etc.)

If you make the move to working in Manhattan permanently, know that if you ever want to move, you'll always be factoring in commuting time (and likely end up looking at more expensive areas where commuting is easier).

Filing income taxes is also a PITA, but you can always hire an accountant to do it.

I would also encourage you to take a job in Manhattan, especially downtown area that has seen a lot of investment over the last few years. You are still young so this will give you a great opportunity to experience working and to some extent living in the densely populated urban area. I assume you will be living in suburban NJ all your life. In Manhattan, you will meet a lot more people than in NJ and will be exposed to different cultures and I think you might love the experience at the end.
