2 years, not necessary, but 3 years old maybe. I would put her in school one year before pre-school, just so they can interact with other kids and learn to socialize, rather than sitting at home, and became too shy.
My kid's been going to daycare since he was 3 months old, and I think he's the better for it. While each kid is different, he generally deals with social situations better than kids I've met that stay at home. He's good with please and thank you, and has learned to share mostly well.
It also helps the parents be less overprotective. I think it probably works to their benefit as far as building up an immune system. He has good friends that he gets to play with, and he has some caretakers and teachers that he loves very much.
Our particular daycare is also often open, so there are times when both my wife and I have off work and we're still able to send him to daycare during the day. It's very much worth it to have him out of our hair for a little bit those days.
it really does depend on the child. my rather shy son didn't want to go to preschool when he was two, so i waited until he was three. he didn't want to go then, either, but i insisted. he started going three days a week, but after a few discussions with his teacher, switched him to two. the following year, i enrolled him for five days a week and ended cutting back to three. though he always had something positive to say about his time there, there was always a negative and reluctance to return. he really just didn't want to go at all.
