Reverse White Flight In New Jersey. Is It Problematic? Or a big winner for all.
First lets break down the very unpolitically correct term. Reverse White Flight.
It usually means white americans abadoned the neighborhoods when it got rough or when they percieved it to be rough.
And Now? They return because of affordability, area improving, or easy commute. Its usually frowned upon by the residents there because some of them get pushed out because of rising prices.
It is happening in Harlem, Ironbound Newark, Jersey City, and a lot of places.
I think its a good thing, because more diverse cleaner streets, those above places have only benefited from it.
So what do you think?
Do you feel current residents should be angry or grateful?
I don't know about reverse white flight in NJ. Not yet anyway. I do acknowledge that some areas close to the commuter rail lines (Montclair) and PATH train (hoboken, Newport area of JC) are seeing the Caucasian population increase.
What people don't realize is the black flight from the traditional cities. That's because the local press won't touch the issue. But the latest Census updates show a decline in the black population of Newark and other cities from 2000-2006. Plus, Elizabeth, Paterson, and Jersey City now have larger Hispanic populations that Black populations.
The black population is moving out of the inner cities, to the suburbs and often to Southern States.
I'm happy for reverse white flight. The inner cities and downtowns should have never been run down in the first place. The locations are great, and especially in north Jersey these cities are in close proximity to NYC, the biggest city in the country.
should they be greatful? well i guess they dont owe anyone any thanks since they either stayed because they wanted to or because they had to. but i bet if they own property there, they will be very happy when its value goes up.
"white flight" shame and blame?
walking out on a bad show will make it close
staying will make it go on.
