Hi,

I recently moved to Morris Plains, and tried to commute to work this morning to find that the parking spots were full. Is there a parking lot near the Morris Plains train station that I can use?

Also I've searched prior forums and they mentioned Denville train station may be a better option. If this is the case, is there ample parking there? If not, is there another parking lot near by?

Just for more info - I take the 7:30AM train so I got to Morris Plains train station at 7:15AM today.

For the Morris Plains station, you have to be there by about 6:45 at the latest to get parking. There really isn't much in the way of any alternatives. I think one of the churches a few blocks away used to rent out spots on a monthly basis, but not sure of details. In the meantime, if you live in Morris Plains, sign up to get on the waiting list for the monthly parking. I think the wait may be very long, but might as well get on the list.

Instead of backtracking on the train line (and having a longer ride), Convent Station is a good alternative if you can't get to Morris Plains earlier. It has plenty of daily parking.

Hi,

That makes sense - going a bit further up on the line than going backwards. Only reason why I thought so was because Denville has 2 lines available which I'm assuming will result in more train choices.

you mentioned Convent Station - Are there enough parking spaces that I should have no problem finding a space around 7:30AM?

The lot for Convent Station is huge and I've never had an issue no matter what time I went. It was my back-up whenever I couldn't get to Morris Plains for an earlier train.

Awesome Thanks! So just to get an idea of what you did and what I may do - you would check morris plains station first, and if it's full go to Convent?

You may do that a few times, but then you will just know when Morris Plains gets full and choose accordingly. There is very little variation day-to-day. Once in a while you get a random surge in people at Morris Plains and might get surprised to find it full, but you'll basically know which trains you'll be able to get parking for.

Oh - and sign up for the ability to pay for parking on your phone (there are signs in the lot). It costs a little extra so I would just pay at the station at the platform most days. But on days that you're running late (and that is the day that there will be a line to pay for parking!), it's a nice to be able to jump on the train; it sucks to have to sit around for 20 minutes for the next train just because of having to take time to pay for parking.

If cost is an issue, you could park at the Morristown town hall and walk (0.5 miles) to Morristown station. The police station is there, so there should be no problems.

If I show up at approx 330pm, is it likely spots will have cleared up by then or will it still be full?
