I know this sounds funny since they are not so close, but how do you compare both cities? Similar style of people? They both seems to be relatively cheap but also decent places to live
Hackensack is more urban and crime ridden than Bayonne which is bit of a old country type of quiet town at night.. a lot of old folks live in bayonne I was walking at 7pm yesterday and it was EERILY quiet
Second. Southern Hackensack is a bit run-down in areas, but crime ridden? No way.
Data courtesy of our hosts: http://www.city-data.com/city/Hackensack-New-Jersey.html. I've been told there are micro-areas that aren't the best but never actually seen them with my own eyes (or maybe I did unknowingly and didn't agree with the judgement).
I'm not sure I'd call the style of people the same. Sure they are both lower-middle-class and diverse, but in very different ways and Bayonne is something of its own little world thanks to the isolation of water on 3 sides and the bad part of Jersey City on the fourth, whereas Hackensack kind of blends into the rest of Bergen County.

Reason: grammar
I'd pick Hackensack over Bayonne any day of the week. You have a lot of diversity in Hackensack with the northern part off of Summit have and near the hospital having upper class folks, while south Hackensack is a little rough. Bayonne is really kind of a dump sorry to say. Its older more run down homes, and the population is older. Both have their fair share of minorities and white people, but more Asians living in Hackensack.
bayonne is much safer, their police force is famous for giving no quarters to criminals.
also the answer depends on your transportation needs. Bayonne has a very efficient lightrail that goes to hoboken/jersey city, you can also transfer to path train to nyc from there. hackensack is connected to all the major highways if you prefer driving.
if i have to pick, i pick bayonne because of safety/neighborhood, especially if you plan to live in a house, not a highrise doorman condo where the surroundings dont matter as much.
I am more of a driving guy so I guess that's one way to look at it.
Are you from Bayonne?
Also, is it true that people from other areas in north Jersey look down upon the people who live in these 2 towns?
