I've tried the local places that advertise zipper repair on shoes since they are the only ones advertising zipper repair, but they can't do what I need.
I have a soft lightweight case for a musical instrument, made of a cordura material with heavy interior padding, and while the bag has been used for a few years and looks perfect, it is the zipper that is failing. Some plastic pieces of the zipper teeth are now starting to break. I need to have it repaired/replaced. It is about 6 feet long all around.
Does anybody know someplace, preferably in Ocean County (but it doesn't have to be), who can do this kind of repair?
Surprised a shoe place can't do it. Maybe a place that does automotive or marine upholstery?
Good suggestion!
Given the fabric and the heavy padding a special heavy duty machine is probably needed. The zipper will likely need to be replaced.
We found a guy in the Trenton area who was able to fabricate sling chair covers out of super heavy duty canvas. He had the equipment and did a great job.
I do think that some upholstery place might be able to do something like this. Nothing like that came up in a zipper repair search, but it's great suggestion.
For something like that, your best bet is to check out upholstery. Google for upholstery shops near your towns.
Places that does minor repairs like shoe repair, dry cleaners, etc. most of time can't and even if they can, they won't do because of $ and time involved. Non-specialty shops won't have 6 feet long zippers lying around and its extra work to find a supplier, order, etc.
Upholstery probably wouldn't have 6 feet long zipper lying around either but they already would have suppliers already for these types of jobs and require less work for them.
Edit: I used to work for my parents dry cleaner and laundromat that provided alteration services.
A car upholstery place might be able to do it; convertible tops sometimes have long zippers like that.
