We could probably look to other countries with superior outcomes and see how they compensate their MDs.
Quick google tells me that anesthesiologists in the UK and France earn similar amounts (200k give or take). That does not seem like an obscene amount of money for something that takes 8-10 years of post-college training (half paid for, half low paid). Internists and other non-interventional specialists get paid even less.

Emergency room health care for truly emergency cases is humanity. Or are you suggesting that if somebody is in a road accident, then before hospital admission one has to pay a deposit first and then get admitted. Happens in many countries unless you go to a govt run hospital there i.e. money first, life later.

Cut the employment venues and illegal immigration will wane on their own. I really don't get why politicians around the US are supporting illegally entered people.

Each time I see DACA news, I really have pity for legally entered people whose minor children "age-out" due to the long wait of their parent's green card process. Take the case of two kids who entered US when they were at the same age but one was brought in illegally here and other legally entered. The illegal gets an EAD while the legal one has to go back if the parents are from backlogged countries. So much for a law-abiding country.
It makes all the sense in the world. The amount you earn has a direct effect on how much property tax you pay. You can’t pay a lot of property taxes if you don’t earn a lot of money. I pay more property taxes than most illegals earn in a year. And that is even if I only count my personal residences.

How much do you think a landscaper or a dishwasher is contributing to the property tax pool? We should be spending tax dollars on citizens, not people that have no right to be here.

And yes. Emergency care is humane. Nowhere have I suggested that we deny it to anyone. But illegals use emergency rooms for non emergencies because they know they will be treated there. And we all pay for it.

I, in no way suggested that we stop paying for true emergencies, but we can cut down on true emergencies of non insured patients by simply getting rid of the people who have no right to be here.

What I am saying, is we need to provide certain things for poor people. We have enough poor people. We dont need to be importing more.

People like you always make me laugh. You act like people that make a good salary are lucky to have jobs that earn a good living.

Like I went through my whole life, meant to do one thing and one thing only, and I am lucky that this one thing I was meant to do, pays a lot of money.

And when I became what I am, I got my first paycheck and said “NO WAY! This job pays this much!!! Wow!!! It’s like I hit the lottery!!!!

No. When we were kids, we worked to be at the top of our class so that we would have more opportunities than other people. We put everything we had into studying for SAT’s, and all other standardized tests so that we could stand out. Some of us go into medicine, others go to Goldman Sachs, others become high powered attorneys.

We do jobs that we like, but that also pay money. I love my job. Guess what? I love playing guitar too, but you dont see me trying to earn a living at it. If being a doctor payed poorly, there is a good chance I would be one of the Goldman Sachs guys or one of the high powered lawyer guys. It would be a shame, because I dont think I would love it nearly as much, but you never know. Maybe I would love it more.

Medicare does not pay the lowest rates. Medicaid does. But Medicare rates are pretty low, but not by free market principles as you are suggesting. They pay those low rates because they are backed by the full force of the government. Hospitals are accredited by the government. In order to keep their accreditation, the hospitals are forced to take Medicare. And I’m not suggesting this is a bad thing.

Who do you think paid for the $30,000 hospital bill each time? You can thank these anchor babies.
The definition of insanity is thinking that the issue here is with the "illegal person" that you "know" (sure you do). And not that someone would be expected to pay $60,000 to have two children.

It's funny, because I absolutely never said that. So if that idea didn't come from me, almost seems like it came from you. I mean, I'm comfortable with the idea that I worked hard to build my career, but at the same time also benefitted from the circumstances that allowed me to succeed.

Maybe if I was invested in some Horatio Alger story about myself, I'd be more paranoid that other people brushed off my success as luck too.

That's cool, I'm glad you love your job. Your high salary is far more of a drag on the economy than undocumented workers are. If you can't understand that, you probably wouldn't go very far at Goldman.

You come to a lot of strange conclusions.

Excellent posts AnesthesiaMD.

Its almost as if some people nowadays look down on people who worked hard when they were young, made the right and responsible decisions in life, and became successful.
