Illinois Republican Gov. Bruce Rauner signed legislation on Monday that would limit cooperation with federal immigration officials, angering members of his own party who say the law creates a "sanctuary state."

The Illinois TRUST Act -- a bill that was passed by the state’s General Assembly in May -- bans local law enforcement from stopping, arresting, searching or detaining anyone based solely on immigration status. More controversially, it bars local officials from detaining anyone solely on the basis of a federal immigration detainer, unless federal officials have a criminal warrant.

Glad I left Illinois 3 years ago. That state is sinking like the Titanic. Un-Funded Pensions, High Taxes, and now this.?

When will the state collapse?

Sadly Trump is discrediting the notion of stricter control of illegal immigration.

States cannot bankrupt.

Even if they could, and Illinois did, it would not enable the state to change accrued pension benefits. Illinois is one of 7 states that protects accrued pensions within the Constitution. Good deal if one has a public pension.

The homicide rate of Illinois is below that of many other states.

Most homicides occur in Chicago. Of those, most occur in 5/25 Chicago Police Districts.

As it relates to Sanctuary, no 2 cities, counties or states define " sanctuary" the same way.

Rauner sought feedback from local LE throughout the state before signing the bill. According to Rauner, 100% of feedback supported signing the bill. Local LE throughout the state has no interest in performing federal functions.

Why does that surprise you?

Corporations and the wealthy are the #1 beneficiaries of cheap illegal labor. There are meat processing plants ALL over Illinois that are heavily staffed by illegals.

Lots of cheap labor means that there is reduced labor pressure for legal blue collar workers too which is yet another win for the corporations that can then pay less.

Both parties love big corporate donations.

They've done a masterful job spinning any opposition to the reaming of blue collar America as "racist".

P.S. I'm one of the people that benefits from cheap illegal labor too. I just happen to have a lot of blue collar in my family tree and hate watching working stiffs get the shaft. Illegals put zero pressure on my income\job and yet I get stuff cheaper, especially things like house painting, landscaping etc.

You are correct as usual.

What is interesting however is if the state goes into what would be called "effective bankruptcy" where services are further reduced, vendors won't do work for them due to non-payment, taxes hiked and so forth.

I looked at possibly moving back there down the road but concluded I might rent but wouldn't buy.
