Up in the attic is a prong that juts out of the wall, and was wondering if this could be for a gas or water hook up? Photo in the link. Does anyone know?

Thanks.

Perhaps for a central vacuum cleaner motor inlet? That's if you have unused wall vacuum outlets throughout the house.

I had such in a house unused instead the motor inlet was in the garage.

Maybe someone else can guess better.

That is a pretty big ask, a rando 1 1/2" PVC sticking out of the wall. Any photos of what's behind the wall? It's not going to be gas if it's PVC though.

Thanks.
It's just a pipe. No one can tell you what it is without some context and some other info.

Yeah, not gas. PVC isn't used for water supply, and that size appears too small for water waste. You've got me; no idea what it is. Do you have access to the wall behind there?

Not without tearing up the wall and insulation behind it...oh well, thanks anyway, everyone!

Pull on it.

Listen for noise or vibration to figure out where it originates from.

The end does not look like it was cut off or had glue on it. Is the cut end straight and clean cut or hacked unevenly as with a hack saw ?

the other end probably comes out below in the basement

Is that in a closet?

Maybe part of a dismantled clothes rack. What is the white looking pipe in the foreground?

Was the prior owner a techie? Kinda looks like a pipe that might have been used for network infrastructure (before wifi). Just throwing out a guess...

It looks kinda bloody. It might be a breathing tube for whoever the previous owner sealed up in the wall.

Is it Steel?

How old is the house?

Could be an abandoned steam heat pipe for a removed Radiator. Floor looks new and may have been removed to do work.
