I'm considering moving to Orange, NJ as an alternative to the high real estate in Maplewood and South Orange. BUT I still need to send my kid to school. Someone suggested that there are a lot of private school options in this area but I'm not seeing much. Any suggestions? If the Orange school district really is that bad, I suppose a fair number of people do this? Looking for a secular school.
Why would you want to live in Orange? It has one of the highest crime rates in the state. There is no way I would live there with children. Have you looked in West Orange? West Orange is significantly cheaper than South Orange and Maplewood. It is very safe and has pretty good schools.
You didn't mention what age your kids are but for elementary you can look at Our Lady of the Lake school in Verona. For high school there is St. Peter's Prep in West Orange (boys) or Mount St. Dominic Academy in Caldwell (girls).
Can you pay to attend South Orange/Maplewood schools? I've heard of families doing that, but it's usually for fairly short periods of time -- a semester or so.

No where near Orange NJ, Newark Academy is in Livingston NJ.The closest I could see might be Seton Hall. How far of a commute do you want for your children? There are alot of schools but you will have to get them there.
Unless you need private schools for a religious reason, you will do better for yourself by buying in a town where you like the public schools
Exactly. there are many great public schools around the area.
