I want to turn my garage into a gym. I want a nice closed area. I just want the walls and if it's not much more I would also like the ceilings done as well. I just want a finished drywall job I will paint myself. I will also finish the floors maybe with coating or rubber tiles

I should add in my original post that the picture is an example of what I want done. It is not my garage.

I am getting $2500-2800 3 different people everything included. Labor, they bring the drywall etc These people have a team of people so I guess they all have to get paid. I have a one car garage. I don't know the square footage but it isn't that big. From what I heard they said about 23-25 pieces of drywall.

I think you need to fill in some more details-

1. What is the total sq ft of all the surfaces to be covered with drywall ?
2. Are there any major beams or other obstructions etc. which they will have to drywall around?
3. What about trim? Like baseboard, Window-sill etc? How will they finish around garage doors?
4. What about electrical outlets?
5. Are you adding insulation? If so, what R-value? Walls? Ceiling? Who pays for insulation?
6. How many coats of Spackle and sanding, 2 are minimum, 3 will be great?
7. Permits/ Inspections are involved? Who is responsible for them? Permit Fees etc?
8. what type of drywall will be used/ required by code half inch or 5/8 inch?

I think the actual drywall install goes very fast, but the finish takes a lot longer. $2500-$2800 seems a bit high. In any case, the contractors who wrote the $2500-$2800 quotes should have raised the questions I mentioned above, if they did not, it is time to get in touch with more contractors.

I've finished a single garage and it doesn't take that many drywall unless you want to finish the ceiling with drywall too. The challenge is whether you want the garage door sealed and opener removed or not.

If so, then it will cost more for plywood to close the garage door off and add some insulation. I probably bought 8 pieces of drywall for a single garage so for that size it looks like maybe 20 pieces at most. I spent more money on the laminate wood flooring. Total project cost me probably $600 in material.
