I know a family in town that bikes everywhere actually. So not really a similar idea to living in a cave.

The OP has posted slightly different versions of this post since January. Everyone that normally responds to people in this sort of thread tend to make their normal responses and then eventually responses die and a little while later she starts another thread.

She seems to have already looked in Maplewood (priced out), South Orange (originally concerned about crime, also later priced out), Metuchen, Orange (alternative to SO/Ma), West Orange (concerned about vibe), Montclair (concerned about local transport to train), Montclair (concerned about making friends). Now we're priced out of Maplewood, South Orange, Westfield and Morristown.

I think she may just be on a unicorn hunt, as most towns that you'd mention will have been mentioned before. She's coming from Jersey City and seems to be the sort of person that South Orange/Maplewood or Montclair is a natural fit for, but seems concerned that she's priced out. There are definitely houses in these towns that sell for less than $550k. They're not going to be the biggest house in the world (it will probably be 3 not 4 bedrooms), and not going to be in the center of town. South Orange is still a hot town, the house across the street from us sold at asking price after being on the market for 2 days (they were specifically not playing games and were just looking for a quick sale). There will be competition, but I'm not sure finding a house in these towns that she has an affinity for and seems likely to be a good fit should be impossible.

I'd love to hear a little more about what problems specifically she's had finding the right house in these towns.

There's a house across the street from me going for less than $550, two family and everything.

Little Falls in the "Center of Town" is very walkable and has a train that goes to Hoboken.
