Another politician photographed on beach while his government is shut down. It will be interesting to observe how the media coverage of this one featuring Senator Menendez compares to the coverage of the infamous Governor Christie beach photos.
Chris Christie went to Island Beach State Park, which because it is a state park, was officially closed down during the NJ Shutdown. He went to state property when no one was allowed to be there, and did so solely as part of a vacation, to have a private beach all to himself.
But this...is the CHC using government funds for their travel to Puerto Rico, or are they using their own funds? To the best of my knowledge, groups like the CHC and other congressional factions do not receive taxpayer money for their funds...they go out and do their own fundraising, which sounds like part of this trip is for. So, if they are not using government funds for this trip, no foul play. A photo of Menendez on a beach when it is not clear or apparent that government funds are being used (WHILE ALSO providing aid and assistance to people hit by a hurricane and then neglected by an incompetent FEMA) does not equate to Christie hogging state property that NO ONE was allowed to be on during July 4 weekend.
But I suppose blind partisanship and always frothing at the mouth for the slightest thing to be outraged over will make you think they are equivalent.
But I happen to think that for one thing, every member of Congress, everyone in the White House, Supreme Court justices, etc. ALL should not be getting paid until the government reopens. Maybe if they started feeling the pain, they would give a rat's ass.

The big difference between this picture and the Chris Christie picture, is that Chris Christie was at Island Beach State Park. Chris Christie was at a state park that was closed to everyone in New Jersey except he and his family, on Fourth of July weekend. Many many families had their Fourth of July plans set months in advance including reservations for camping at this beach, and they were all told they were not allowed to go now because of the shutdown. And then there is Chris Christie and his family on this deserted beach by themselves. It looked very much like “there are different rules for the king then for the commoners“. That was the problem with that photograph. If he had been on any other beach, it would not have been the issue that it was.

You want to be taken seriously yet you can't tell the difference between this and Chris Christie???
the image of RM on the beach in PR, the same PR still struggling post storm, and not in DC working toward a solution to the border crisis speaks volumes. Perception is reality, as liberals so claim.
Public life of elected officials requires consideration of comportment to avoid giving a bad impression. Though not a crime, impression is required for extended political life.
The image of CC and RM on the beach were both used for political advantage.
the difference is one guy was heavier than the other. the perception is dependent on the viewer and valid.
the decadence and elitist image of RM confirms his not guilty verdict, was a timing gift, based on the recent precedent set in the MD case. without that, RM would be wearing orange in confinement in upstate NY, not on a beach flirting with women.
the media will treat RM's image diff than CC's, it is what a good official propaganda machine does in a state where dems outnumber repubs.

I repeat what I said ,if you can't tell the difference between what one did and what the other did you will not be taken seriously.

That was not the difference. Again the difference is Christie was at a state park that was closed to everyone in NJ except him and his family on 4th of July weekend. The difference was, he applied different rules to him and his family than the rest of NJ families, many of whom had reservations for that state park that weekend, made months or even years in advance.
It will be treated differently because the circumstances are very different. If Christie's photo was in Wildwood or Seaside, there would not have been outrage.
Why the hell are our politicians taking bribes on pr beaches.
Considering his history, I thought Menendez would be thanking his lucky stars that he still has a job, and that he would avoid this kind of thing. At least for a little while.
I guess I was wrong.
