I understand some people hate Sen. Sweeney. But this legislation seem to be the first steps in stabilizing the property tax issue.People complain about taxes and multiple school districts yet they dont seem to pressure their law makers to get on board with legislation that reduces government cost . All the legislature seems to care about is social justice laws all while ignoring the elephant in the room. is it the NJEA, is it home rule ?is it "say one thing and do another"? I dont get it?

what will it take? a whole town revolts and refuses to pay property taxes? Pensions going into bankruptcy court....sorry for the rant

I agree with Sweeney to an extent. Public worker health care can fairly easily be cut back. It’s pretty crazy how much they spend on it. If they offered significant cash bonuses to those who downgraded to a “gold” plan or waived health insurance entirely (go on spouses insurance) they would find takers and save a chunk of change.

I actually think property taxes have stabilized though and if we stay on the plan towards making the full pension payment, we are gonna be ok.

In my town property taxes are going up by the cap every year, and Murphy talked about removing the cap. They already let them get around it with a separate sewer tax and the "rain tax". No real stabilization.
