Anywhere you live in NJ should have access to a train/bus to NYC. If you dont have to commute into the City I would not make it a priority. I think you may realize quickly that most people from NJ never go into the City, its a hassle and the novelty of it wears off.
Am I reading correctly? "most people from NJ never go into the City....." MOST people from New Jersey WORK in NYC......ha, ha, ha, !!!!!
My personal opinion is to rent before buying. NJ is extremely diverse town by town. You really need to take some time to explore what you like before buying something.
I never liked the 'feel' of West Orange and surrounding towns in Essex County. Its like the barrier nice town to all the other sh*t holes east of it. I lived near West Orange for 5 years and although im white I never felt like I fit in between all the Italians. Also it being uber expensive for what you get.
Danny: The last time I checked about "racism in New Jersey," myriad of years ago, I learned that Italians are of European descent, therefore, and consequently, they are considered to be ''WHITE."
Take a look at South Amboy. I think you can find something in your price range, easy train ride to Newark, easy drive to the shore areas, everything close by.
Also, a question re the driving vs. train to Newark scenario. Will the job be near Newark Penn? Because your choice might be different if you have to find a way to get from the station to another part of Newark.
Mightyqueen801: I think he would fit better in Colonia, NJ, where he may find a house for about $300. It is a small town, with very -nice people, the New Joisy train (just joking) is not far away, that can take you to Newark.
Aside from Union, which I think is an excellent suggestion, I would add Bloomfield, Clifton and Belleville to the list. You can definitely find homes in your price range in those towns and they’re all close to downtown Newark. Good luck and welcome to JERSEY!

Quick question- Do you consider "Italians" white?
