Your best bet is to get a job in municipal gov't.
Though you'll probably have to do a fair amount of "side work" at election time.

Those are really tough to get - most likely have to know someone. I think I only got my offer because 5 people in this particular department retired during Covid.

There are a lot of people in state government retiring due to covid, more will exit prior to their October return.

Just remember with most if not many civil service jobs it's last in first out. Thus during a recession or any other major budget upheaval that causes reduction in workforce, those low on totem pole will be first out the door. This regardless of work record or whatever other positive things.

it actually goes by whether you are in an unclassified vs classified title first (unclassified tend to be higher paying, governor pal jobs).



classified titles are the majority of state workers, and they are protected, for the most part. It has to be a pretty big layoff for those jobs to go.
