I'm not really a fan of beaches. Hot, no shade, too much sand. Parking bad.
There is a whole beach area near me, call it Bradley Beach but there are a few.
I'm fortunate enough to belong to a beach club with a cabana with table/umbrella about 10' above the beach. I don't dig the sand either, but working and hanging out at the cabana is great.
The beaches in southern California are better and less crowded and there's a far better surf culture there.
But Jersey shore is decent for what it is.
Here's something better about NJ beaches. I just read an article in the Post about how today in San Diego, sea lions chased a bunch of frightened beach goers. There's even video of it. Pretty funny stuff....
I tried to go to Cape May once. It was so far away I thought I was going to fall off the planet, and I was coming from Philly! I did go to Ocean Beach once, that was beautiful.
Unimaginative maybe, but I've never had any reason to go south of Spring Lake .
