I just ordered a passport card also when I renewed my passport, so no need to worry about the NJ license.
Smart idea. The funny thing is ever since I received my new DL that looks very fake, not one bar asked for my ID. I guess I finally look old enough now that they have no reason to card me. Haha
NJ DLs are notorious for looking fake and have been that way forever.
I was living in NC (military) in the 90s and I didn't have my photo on my DL. I got pulled over for speeding at one of those spots where the speed limit goes from 55 to 45 for no reason. I've always been pretty good with that stuff but it was pretty late in the day, driving home from the beach, driving into the sun, maybe I didn't see the 4 because of the glare. Anyway, cop asks me for my DL, registration, insurance card:
Cop:"What the hell is this? This ain't ID, where's your ID at?"
Me: "Sorry, you asked me for my DL, I have ID right here." (hands him military ID)
Cop:"OK, Where's your DL?"
Me: That's it, sir. The one in your right hand.
Cop:"This?"
Me: Yes, sir.
Cop: How do I know this is you?
Me: Because you have my photo ID right there. Same name on all of my documents.
Cop: (reading it) Why in the world. . ?
Me: I'm not really sure. I guess because it's just a license to operate a motor vehicle. It's not meant to be a photo ID.
Cop: You wait right here, I'll be back in a minute (walks away with DL and ID)
Cop: (3 minutes later handing me my docs) Here you go. Mr. Drive, you need to watch those speed limit signs, it's 45 posted through here . . . and you really oughta consider getting a DL with a photo on it. Have a nice day.
