We currently live in Ocean county. We really need more space, and are looking for a home in the mid-high 300s range, but with the market right now, we are priced out of most areas. I'm originally from NY, so when I read some areas described as "rough" on here, I have to laugh. Anyway, I did a search and saw a few threads on here, but from like 15 years ago, about Settlers Landing being bad. Can anyone tell me what makes it "bad" drugs, violence, rentals? We saw a home we like by Barnegat Blvd, so not sure if it's considered Settler's, but it is close to Herritage Village. We also have 2 kids, middle school and elementary age. Any info on the area and people? Don't want to make a wasted trip down if the area is crap. I googled and saw a lot of crime on Lexington Ave which is 2 minutes away..

Yes stay away from the settlers landing area for all the same reasons you listed. Rest of Barnegat is fine, but why not Manahawkin, has lower taxes and is just as nice.

Looking there too, just right now the marker is horrible, unless you have 500k-600k to spend..
