We have had our owning housing boom over I'd say the last 5 years. There has been alot of new construction here too (on what little land there is left to develop in this state). Most common construction Jesey is what we call creating "mini-mansions". Taking a 3 bed Cape or Ranch and blowing up to whatever your property or town will permit. We paid $179,000 for our home in 1999, did some remodeling and added an above ground pool with deck. I estimated we have spent maybe $7,000 over the last 7 years. Our home was reassessed last year, thus $300 jump in mortgage payments due to property taxes. We put out "feelers" for what our who is worth in today's market and we were blown away by the estimates ($400,000 +).
Can you say cha-ching!
We have been looking at homes in the Port Charlotte area and we can buy a home there with almost twice the sq. footage with a inground pool for half of what our home's market value is. Besides NO MORE SNOW !!!!!!!!!!!
I am starting to stock up on fishing gear and motorcycle parts. They are very inexpensive and plentiful this time of year !!!!!!!!!!!1

one of the main reasons why homes in NJ are so expensive it's because of the proximity to NYC.. have you noticed the price difference between SOuth Jersey and North Jersey.. many people that live in North Jersey, work in NYC which means higher salaries.. global corporations are in North Jersey, pay better, etc..

If you want to live in a town that has access to NYC, excellent schools, many programs for your children and family people try Wayne.

Add to my last reply: that's the reason it is so expensive to live here.

Houses are priced higher here because of a few reasons.
1. Location
2. A lot of people working here make very good money.
3. Contrary to what Jay Leno says, NJ is a very nice place to live. ( NJ is a lot more than Newark Airport, Oil refineries. and the NJ Turnpike).

Just suppose you live in NC, SC, VA and you want to take your kids to see a pro Baseball, Football, Basketball or Hockey game.

Just suppose you and the spouse want to take in a broadway play or the Opera

Sorry not available.

NJ ain't all that bad, expensive yes, bad no.
