I work now Terry lol I miss you too.............I will probably go wi th tiles BUT with WHO I dont want him to install i t would take forever and alot of cursing, I also need carpet soooooooooooo where or whom shall I go to????
I hired a bunch of Illegal Polish Immigrants to do mine...lol - JUST KIDDIN' NJKATE!!! They were legal : ) I'll see if I can find their number and DM you with it. Very reasonable.
I would definitely go with tile - especially in a kitchen and especially after having hardwoods in my kitchen. And if you have kids...tile is much more kid-mess friendly.
I went with the hardwoods in my kitchen b/c there was really no senisible place to transition the hardwood from the foyer into the kitchen in my house (thanks to the 5 year old who was the architecht for the homes in my development).
Also with a kitchen and laminate flooring - drop a knife, it can ding it. And with all the business that goes on in a kitchen (food gets dropped, water spashes from the sink, dishwasher, a fridge with a water/ice dispenser, etc.) you'll constantly be cleaning your floor - little sponge mop-ups leave smears and all that good stuff. Crumbs and sink-sponge wipe ups don't seem to show up as much on tile (as long as the tile isn't white and/or has a sheen to it).
Just my opinion. I know how pretty pergo or hardwood looks in a kitchen, but the maintenance is a PITA. Good luck with your decision!

What kind of tile?
We have ceramic tile in the new house in the master bathroom, I hate it.
In our old house we put a really nice tile in one of the bathrooms, it wasn't the cheap stuff, wish I knew where the box of saved tile was (yes saved it so I could rebuy for here).
I just remembered that I posted elsewhere about it, it was Cryntel Italia Stone - Eurostone - I just found it at Lowes & think that if/when I go out today, I'm picking some up for myself. lol Very easy to install.
edit - btw, we have wood floors in the new house, hate those as well. Have to use a special cleaner on them.
Oh no, don't go with Pergo, it's fake wood! Ugh. Ceramic tile is much more desirable for a kitchen OR bathroom, especially when it comes to resale value.
And here's another "ugh" for you...Lowe's??!! Noooo. It's OK to buy your mulch at Lowe's, but please don't have them install your flooring, please. Look in your local yellow pages or google "Flooring, Sussex County NJ" and get a few quotes, pick the one you feel most comfortable with.
And .... Do NOT go with the cheapest quote! No matter WHAT. Trust me, and thank me later
We used Wayne Tile in June (showrooms in Hamburg and Wayne) to do both tile and hardwood. We found they did a great job and were pretty reasonable. Not cheap, but reasonable. I would also say no to Lowe's.
I would go with ceramic tile for a kitchen. I will say, however, in our old house we had tile with an uneven surface (more of a natural look) and the dirt got in there and wouldn't come out unless you got down on your hands and knees with a scrub brush. This time we got a smoother tile without the pits and grooves (not too smooth to be slippery, though) and it cleans up so easily!!!!!

Italian Porcelain is the way to go... nothing sticks to it! Very durable..
We went with ceramic tile in the kitchen and HATE IT. Probably because we went with a dark color. Wish we did floating wood/laminate.
Also, we cheaped out on the install...the guy was recommended by someone we trust, and he didn't clean the grout off the tiles properly, so now we have a film on the tile we can't seem to get rid of. And he installed them with wire mesh...so they'll never come up without ruining our cabinets, which we love. Lessons learned, all.

Pergo holds up alot better than a wood floor.
