We recently moved to Northern NJ and are looking to buy a house. We are looking a 3BR 2Ba house with a garage and preferably a basement under 400K. TH/SF home i ok. My work is on west side of tapanzee bridge. Hence Bergen county has been preference.
However property taxes are driving are affordability and looks like mahwah is the only area left which we can afford. Any other suggestions will be greatly appreciated. We are K with doing 20 down but would like to keep our monthly payment including everything under 2500K
Mahwah is okay, but really Ridgewood, Glen Rock, Allendale, Wyckoff, River Edge, Oradell are the desirable towns in Bergen County. Dont even bother with any other town because they are quite dangerous and unsafe.

Yeah, all those years I lived in Midland Park, there were murders on every corner, day and night...

This poster is really misinformed and please disregard this. Bergen County is very safe with low crime.

Oh yes, this. Alpine and Cresskill are especially dangerous with the marauding Bentleys and SLs that will run you down on a moment's notice. And carjackings in Haworth have not dropped one iota in the past 10 years. Stay away.
Still not finding any home in NJ. Very frustrating!!
Not impossible, but not going to be easy to find with a budget on the low side for NNJ, especially in Bergen County.
