Hi --I tried reading through many posts already, but still can't decide where to start our search. My husband has a pretty large territory, so we have a lot of flexibility (all of Bergen county, Morris, and surrounding areas). We have 2 small children and schools are a big priority for us along with just a really nice sense of community, nice people, down to earth environment (i know this is all subjective, but we're trying), etc. Is there anyone who would recommend a town in those areas? We started researching Cedar Knolls, Caldwells?, Ramsey, Whippany, Mountain lakes, Hanover, Montville. We don't have to be very close to NY -just North Jersey areas. These are just towns people have told us about. Any suggestions would be very much appreciated!

River Edge or Oradell in Bergen County.
Nice towns, both shares very good schools and are very close to NYC.

As you mention, Ramsey is a good town but not as good schools such as Riverdell's. Mahwah, which is next to Ramsey has better schools.
Paramus is nice town and has good schools too.

Avoid Hackensack, Dumont, Paterson and Newark.

Stick with Morris county... better schools and more bang for your buck! What is your price range?

I see Mt. Lakes on your list so you must have a high budget!

Thanks so much!!! Mountain lakes is really that pricey? I just started to look and we've been looking on nj monthlys school report -it's great -it compares '08 to '06 rankings, etc.

Long Valley (Washington Twp.) Morris County sounds perfect for you... great community... young community... great schools (West Morris). Just need to know approx. what you are looking to spend?

Morris County is your best choice, centrally located, relatively low property taxes compaired to other Counties, and many towns with great schools.

Here are my favorites. Chatham, Madison, Florham Park, Harding, Morris twp. Morristown, Harding, Morris Plains and even Parsippany & Denville.

As a professional serving this area I am happy to answer additional questions.

I grew up since 5 in Washington Twp. (Bergen county) I still love that town. Great sense of community there. Plus you have all the nice surrounding towns. Ridgewood is great too but more pricey.
