HI everyone,

We are looking currently at moving to the Morganville area in Marlboro...Monmouth County. My husband will be commuting to NYC from there as well. Would like some general information about the Marlboro area in general as I don't know anyone there and about the school systems in the Morganville area. I have 2 small children...is it a family oriented area?? Good nursery schools and public schools?? How is the commute to NYC from there.
Any negatives about the area...I am moving from a bigger city in CT so I am a bit apprehensive but the house prices in the area are much more reasonale than CT.

Thanks so much for your responses.

Hi, welcome to the area!

Marlboro is a huge town. Morganville is a subsection of it. Marlboro in recent years has built up tremendously with many new neighborhoods.

The town has one high school, Marlboro High School, and it's supposed to be very good.

You'll have lots of shopping and things to do. A lot of Morganville is off of Rt. 79 which will take you down to Freehold Mall. It's also off of Rt. 34.

Morganville borders Matawan/Aberdeen, so you have a wide range of pre-schools from either town. There are a ton of pre-schools in close range of the Morganville area, so you'll have a big choice.

There is a lot to do with little ones, in Morganville there is a children's gymnastics gym, Little Gym, that is really nice. It's on Rt. 34.

Smile Marlboro?

Just inresponse to your need for info about Marlboro! It is relatively close to Rt.18 and RT9 which when you travel North will link you to either Rt#1 or the NJ Turnpike which will get you to NYC. I'm familiar with many of the areas just south of Marlboro ( Manalapan, Freehold, Freehold Twp & Howell ) All of these areas seem to have parking lots for communters that ride NJ Transit buses into the city. The availability of the train to commute is questionable as the closest area is a way off. The earlier thread is correct. The entire area is very accessible to shopping, medical facilities etc. Marlboro HS is the only public high school in that town. Many elementary & nursery schools.
I believe from my experience that many areas of Marlboro are very affluent.
Many new housing developments, but like anyway in NJ, new housing is a bit pricey and property taxes out of this world. I'm not sure of you own situation as this may not be a concern

Hope it sheds some light.

Good Luck

Marlboro schools are ok, many years ago they used to be alot better, marlboro has changed since then taxes are outrageous and it is affluent if you like those kind of people....the homes range for a bi-level to small colonial in the high 400's not getting alot of house for your money Marlboro is part of the Freehold Regional School District depending on what your child wants to do with his/her life they can pick a specialty and be able to go to Manalapan HS, Freehold Twp Hs, Freehold Boro HS or Colts Neck HS.....Manalapan personally is nicer than marlboro, Morganville isnt that big since its a part of Marlboro. Commuting from morganville is still about 1 hour and 35 min minimum, a freind of mine who worked in midtown who lives in marlboro used to take her 2 hours in the evening to get home and the commute was just too much...We used to live in Manalapan off of route 9 and the commute for dh was over an hour and half on a good day.....If I can be of any assistance pls feel free to PM me...for schools go to www.greatschools.net also remember parent reviews are also very important and not just the Test Scores overall when making a decision on the school, go visit and see for yourself..good luck to you

About driving in Manhattan:
I drive every night ( midnight shift ) takes me 50 minutes from Morgenville to uper Manhattan. One more time, this is after 9:00pm
It's totally different if you work in Manhattan morning shift, so I will say at list 2 hours drive from door-to-door...it's really madness for me
gas and e-zpass monthly 700$ for sure! (I did not plane for this!) and it's killing me on $.

Locally with the Car: Make sure your Husband read this, if he sees a sign 35 mile per hour---he must---drive 35 , I never had any ticket before in my life, now I have 8 points in my driver license, and I'm really scared because if they suspend my license...I my lousing my job! ( I went to court and I plead guilty for driving 40 on 35 : )

Local roads in the snow: I will recommend SUV, I have small car and when I see it's snowing outside makes me nervous, but they do clean the roads...can't complain about it...just recommending here SUV, something more stronger.

Major roads and Expres: They are all good, Garden State Parkway it's the road to go north and it's very closer to Morgenville, it gets jammed weekends on summer time and after 6 pm at the end of holidays going back north. The best thing it's 1010 news AM Radio Station it tells every 20 minutes detailed traffic routs in and out to Manhattan.

I love NJ, when I go to sleep...I really do sleep.
and I think Morganville it's really good neighbourhood

ps: Sorry for my English, hope I help...

Now I know why you have 8 points on your license. 50 minutes to "upper Manhattan". Even if you get on the pkwy., to the turnpike and over the GWB that's a 50 plus mile ride. I doubt you leave your driveway traveling at 60+ m.p.h. and don't let your foot of the pedal till you get to Manhattan. Or maybe you do. When you quote driving times it's always good to give a person the "real travel time" as if they would be traveling at the posted speed limit. By the way the posted speed limit on the turnpike north of 13 is 55 m.p.h.
Someone also mentioned the train. The stations are really not that far away. There's one in Matawan and one in Hazlet. I don't know about parking at the stations but they are a good alternative to get into the city.

Default Parking in Matawan station

There is a long waiting list for parking permits in the main lots at the Aberdeen-Matawan station( they may be parking available in the far dirt lots but i am not sure about that) and i am not sure about Hazlet but I am sure the lots fill up quickly during rush hour. You will have a easier time finding parking at South Amboy and Woodbridge stations or you want to cough up more money, Metropark station and get more express trains to NY

For Hazlet, my husband just got his parking permit: he waited six years for it.

Matawan train station, he still didn't get his parking permit, and we've been on the waiting list for nine years now!

You just have to use daily parking or get a ride.
