Does anyone know if you have your license and your registration for your vehicle with your home in NJ and your really live in PA, is this insurance fraud in NJ? Your home is not rented out but you do not live in it but reside with your common law wife in PA. If you get in an accident close to your NJ home, but as a result of the accident you die, and your death certificate indicates your place of residence as your common law wife's home in PA, will your insurance refuse to pay the medical bills because they considered that you lied to them? Thanks for your help.

Um, if you're dead, why do you care about having your medical bills paid? I'd be more concerned about that the fact that you're committing insurance fraud while you're alive- considering that's the bigger, more risky offense. Besides- isn't insurance in PA typicall much cheaper than in NJ??

Its important because if not your common law wife will be responsible for the bills if the insurance does not pay them. But is it fraud? You have a home, a license, pay taxes to NJ and pay higher insurance rates in NJ. You live in PA everyday for several years. Is it fraud?

You don't have a "home" in NJ- you have a "house" in NJ- there's a difference. If you're residing in PA everyday, you have a "home" in PA. I can't fathom why you'd want to pay taxes to NJ if you don't "live" there, and why you'd want to pay the higher insurance rate- something doesn't make sense.

I'm assuming you've been in this "common law marriage" since before 2005, since otherwise it's not legally recognized/enforcable in PA.

Common Law Marriage – since 2002. House in NJ was eventually to be sold (repair work was being done) so changing drivers license would be too much of a hassle especially since home in PA was to be sold and new residence to be purchased in NJ for both to live in with sale from both homes. Before buying home in NJ together, there would be a “legal” marriage.

Oh my goodness. If you're moving to NJ in a few months don't worry about it. If you're staying in PA get a PA DL and registration.

Yes it would be fraudulent to lie about your garaging address.

I lived in AZ and moved to NJ. I contacted my insurance and they allowed me to remain on my AZ policy to the end of the 6 month term.
