What would you think of someone who owns a house in the Pocono's, but also has an apartment in NJ?

If you work only Monday-Thursday , do you think this would be worth it? It is about 75 minutes from NYC at times in which there is not rush hour traffic. House in PA only costs $80,000 and is good condition. The apartment in NJ is minutes to work

If you can afford both, why not. Just be warned, you would want to make your way out to PA on Thursday night or Friday morning and head back to NJ Sunday night. The traffic on Route 80 westbound on Friday night and eastbound on Monday morning is horrendous.

I think it's a great idea if you have the money to make that kind of investment. Be warned though, the PA natives can be very, very nasty and do not care for "transplants" much. There are tons of stories, even on this forum, of people being shunned in the Lehigh Valley and NEPA. Hide your Jersey plate and start talking with a twang, because once they find out you're from jersey they will give you the nastiest look in the world, then just flat out ignore you.

This is more common than you think. Better be careful with the Poconos, it has become a haven for trash, gangs, etc. There might be some reasonable areas but you can buy new construction for like $75K, that should tell you something.
