Planning to move from Brooklyn ASAP and looking for a townhouse. Schools seem best in Hillsborough and Bridgewater. I've seen a few condos, but finding the right combination of affordability and good school district has been a challenge (I'm a single parent).
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Info about better communities, subdivisions to avoid, other towns in the vicinity will help a lot!
I don't think there is a community in NJ that is more convienent than Bridgewater. Just minutes from I 78 or I 287. Rt 22 cuts Bridgewater in half. The schools system has a good reputation and if you are lucky enough to live North of 22 in the hills you are away from the highway noise and congestion. You have the Bridgewater Commons close by and all the major chain stores and restaurants are just a short drive. But just like the rest of NJ high taxes go along with high home prices.
Hillsborough is a notch or two below Bridgewater.
I'm looking for a job now, but I don't expect to have a problem finding work locally. I'm a nurse.
One more question: Do the schools offer any after-school programs? Or are there private programs that will pick up a kid at school? My son is 9 and I don't want him going home to an empty house if I'm working. What do other working parents do? Hire a babysitter? What do babysitters charge?
I live in Bridgewater and most of the schools have affordable befor and aftercare programs. Their are a lot of opportunities in hospitals as I can count at least 4 in a 20 minuted distance.
Well if your a nurse you can try to get a job at muhlenburg hospital in Plainfield or at St. Peters In New Brunswick and still live in somerset county in N.Plainfield or Edison (But that is in Middlesex County)
I'm finding Hillsborough quite inviting: the townhouses are within my price range and many have the features I'm looking for, the schools are good, the neighborhoods seem kid-friendly. Bridgewater is appealing, but a bit pricey on one salary and most of the condo/townhouses I've seen are single floor units (not what I'm looking for).
This board is a terrific source of info! Thanks everyone and happy Easter!
