They make so much noise and pollution just so the grass looks pretty.

Let the grass grow, life will not end. Summer is bad, but the Fall is the worst with the leaves. They attack the leaves like they are invading Normandy.

Go to H*ll landscapers or at least go back to M*xico.

These guys are just trying to make a living, now is the time when they are busy, so they use the gas powered equipment to get the job done as fast as possible.
I agree, its noisy and not very environmentally friendly, but as long the homeowners are paying, why should they stop.
You want a quiet lawnmower--- get a sheep

Maybe not for your lawn, but cutting, edging, weedwacking, and cleaning up at my place takes a good 1.5-2 hours- it's well worth the money I pay to have someone else do it. I've got better things to do than spend my weekend cutting the lawn- plus, if it rains on the weekend, I'd get stuck either doing it at night during the week, or trying to cut two weeks of growth at once.

Let's not forget that keeping the lawn cut inhibits the mosquitos!
I've been thinking of putting up a bat box to help in this area.

Next to T*xas.

Landscaping? Why pay? Because with any decent sized lawn, if you bag, it will take you more than 1.5 hours. Used to take me about 3 hours to push around a mower when I was a kid. Let me tell you, 90 degrees and humid "NJ Summer" lawnmowing SUCKS!!!

Not only that, try having an allergy to grass!!!! I had to stick tissues up my nose!!!

Maybe what should be looked at should be more efficient/quiet mowers. With the size of these things now you would think they could have better mufflers!!!! (And with the price of gas, more efficient engines!!)

I have been looking into putting a bat house up too. Loews sells them or you can buy them off of EBAII.
here is a good link:

I remember playing soccer at a place more in the woods than the other fields... I think it was Wells Fiedl, but it may have been another (I will have to ask my parents).

If you were still out after sunset, you started to see them flitting about.

Of course, as kids, we thought it was really cool to throw a small pebble in the air and watch them swoop in/spiral to get it.

It was all fun until we would see one hit the ground (and most still flew away), then our conciences would tell us to stop...

But it was still very cool to watch them fly, much quicker than most birds!!
