I currently began renting a new house. We viewed the house and saw cable outlets (for tv) in 4 rooms. After signing the lease, the landlord told us he was re-doing the siding- great! However, they cut all the cable cords. Now, he will only pay to re-install in one room. He claims a previous tenant did the other rooms, and he only supplied cable to one room. Do we have a case to make him pay for installation in the other rooms??

Please advise.

Are you living there now?

You wrote you 'saw' cable outlets, but were they working?

If you were already living there and the outlets were working he can't just cut your cable cords and say oh well...

Please explain further

Yes, they were there and working for the previous tenants. However, they were drilled in through the walls and had to be severed when the new siding went up. Since he didn't install them, he refuses to replace them, even though he never told us he was redoing the siding or cutting the cables. We moved in mid re-siding process. So, they were never working for us.

That's a hard one... I would think he would have to repair them but I'm not sure. What area of Jersey do you live in? In Jersey they have a place called Legal Aid Offices and they would be able to help you our with this at no cost. You would even be able to pick up an update Tenant/Landlord Laws Handbook.

By the way it doesn't sound like your landlord is going to be an easy landlord to get along with and that's no fun. Being a good landlord he should take care of it since it was damaged…

Good luck

Well WHO needs cable anyway? You have about 35 channels of free digital FREE TV anyway?
No landlord is liable to supply you with that prostituted pimped cable TV. TV is supposed to be free, as in over the air free digital TV. Right now the FCC has gov't paid contractors available to install free Tv anywhere in the USA also. Not cable but real TV. Over the air also has the best quality being uncompressed. I just wonder how so many people got used to paying for something where they should be paying YOU to watch it.
