Default Tier II unemployment running out in 1 week. How to file for EB?

My Tier II unemployment is running out. I called for my last check and was told by the automated woman that my balance is "0" and I don't qualify for any other extensions. The recording continued, saying you will be contacted if other extensions are made available. Does anyone know the process for getting EB? Is EB (extended benefits) filed automatically for you, or do I have to wait until I get my last check and get paperwork to file?

The eligibility requirements for EB are different than the requirements for regular Unemployment benefits, or for the Tier I extension, or for the Tier II extension.

You say that the recording told you that you did not qualify for any other extensions -- which reflects what is in the record for you now. If you did qualify for EB, you would normally get a letter notifying you of that. You need to speak with a rep at Unemployment about your particular case.

How bout you find a new job? That should have been your top priority since day one of collecting unemployment. Doesnt have to be a great job, just something to have until you find a better one

Well, I doubt someone who (for example) got laid off from a high-paying banking job is going to flip burgers at McDonalds. This economy has the worst job market in many peoples' lifetimes - finding a suitable job with an income that exceeds what you often get on unemployment is next to impossible for many folks. It's probably better to keep your eyes open at all times but wait it out.

And when you unemployment expires? Then with millions more having lost their jobs some of which are probably proud enough to prefer to work at McDonalds then take a hand out you start actually looking for a "lesser" job?

Good luck with that plan.
