Well here is a quick way to have a surfing lesson. Get a cheap foam body board. Go get wet in 1-3ft surf and learn how the waves work by trying to catch a wave. Learn to catch a wave by trial and error. Then after you really like it, go and buy a light 7 foot foam board and bob around for a few weeks in 1-2ft surf and guess what you will learn to surf.... and go from there..Hey it worked for me in 1963 at Seaside Heights and I have surfed from Seaside to South Beach to Rota Spain to Steamers to 1st peak and HB and El Cap, Newport, etc.. and not to forget Rye on the Rocks and I mean on the rocks and of course in and outs at York Beach, Me...catch a wave in the river and ride it back in from the ocean....Yo! Grog! Love ya! Honeycomb.....
Would appreciate any info.. Should I be looking at Deal, NJ for lessons
Appreciated,
Sligo
P.S. To all posters: Hope you all have great summer!
Deal isn't a surf-friendly town. They pretty much harass surfers every chance they get. Manasquan is extremely surfer-friendly, as is Long Beach Island. Those two places are pretty much the epicenters of surfing in NJ.
If you're near the Deal area, check in with Spellbinder's surf shop in Allenhurst, which is the next town over. They should be able to hook you up with a local who paddles out and teaches people how to start up.
