We are looking at the possibility of relocating to NJ...somewhere within a decent daily commute of Mays Landing. We are coming from Western New York with our three children. My husband is entertaining a job offer. Our oldest is in an honors program here and our son is in special education.
Any thoughts, locations suggestions, ideas, etc? Any productive information would be greatly appreciated.
Stay away from Mays Landing proper! It has a really bad reputation as a poor town with lots of crime. It's Atlantic County's county seat. Also, stay away from any town that's near the shore. Housing is out of site in those towns!
Check out Buena Vista and Landisville. They have a lot of Mexican and Guatemalan immigrants, but there are also very nice, quiet, rural parts.
If possible, you might want to rent a home before you buy, so you can see if you like this area. Off the top of my head, no standout town comes to mind. Others who live closer to ML may be able to give you more advice.
Bufgal,
I grew up 15 minutes from Mays Landing. There are very nice communities near there and to be quite honest it's not that bad. Buena Vista and Landisville are kindy "trashy" imho. A whole lot of nothing but open fields and illegals. Check out Galloway Township, Hamilton Township, Absecon (pronounced ab-see-con) Egg Harbor Township referred to as E.H.T. All of these towns are quite nice, good schools, lots of shopping and restaurants and nice neighborhoods. Plus they're all within 15 minutes of Mays Landing. Like all of NJ expensive but since it's SJ not as expensive as North Jersey. One of my old highschool buddies is a realtor there. I lived in the area for 26 years so feel free to ask me any questions.
