I have a friend who rides his bicycle to the Westfield train station every AM. Another has a spouse-run drop-off/pick-up service (stay at home spouse). Have you tried walking there? Not sure what the other options are ... kinda stinks that parking is such a problem. They should build a garage or something.
From the things I read, there are some "daily" spots in lot #3 for $5. How fast do they fill up? On the wesfield website it says it opens at 6:45 (and in another place it says 7:00). So I guess that could work, but not optimal (since I would have to switch my work schedule a bit)
My friend's husband drives and parks at the "daily" spots M-F to catch the train. As long as he gets there by 7am/7:15am, he always gets a spot. I don't know if the nearby towns have better parking for their trains. Maybe there may be street parking availability near Garwood or Cranford? I personally just drive to Summit, since there's plenty of parking at the structure and catch the train there.
I used to live in Westfeld and worked in Manhattan, and I used to drive to Linden and catch the train from there. Not sure if the train from Westfield goes directly to Manhattan now, but at that time, the train only went to Newark and I would then need to catch another train into Manhattan. That's why I decided to drive to Linden....the train from Linden to Manhattan was direct, so no need to disembark in Newark and get on another train. For me, this was worth the drive to Linden.
Since there is such a long wait for a Westfield train station parking permit, how do new residents handle it?
For me to get to work on time, I will probably have to catch a train/bus around 6:45.
Depending on where you work, a lot of people from westfield, clark and cranford park at the rahway parking deck and take the train from there , that might be a good option for you
Do you know if there is a wait for the deck there? Did a search, and cannot find any info. Tried to call and no one answered.
Looks pretty cheap at $85/month.
