Hi. This summer I'm looking to rent a detached home in New Jersey. I'm interested in the Hopewell/Pennington area just west of Princeton. I'm worried about how much availability there will be for house rentals. Ideally, I would sign a lease starting on July 1, but I'm wondering if I need to be more flexible as far as that date is concerned. Should I shop around well before this target date?

Does anybody know if house rental availability gets bigger or smaller in the summer months? I worry that owners might get optimistic about selling their homes and won't be open to renting any longer.

Specific Jersey advice and general real estate knowledge is welcome.

Thank you!

I can tell you that is a beautiful area. Very good school district if that matters to you. Pennington has a very nice main street with some restaurants and shops.

Thanks, yes, the area seems great. We want to rent a house for a year to get a really good feel for the area before we buy something. We would also look at houses in the nearby parts of Princeton township or Lawrence township. Just concerned because right now there are not a lot of rental listings - all we see are 1 condo and 2 townhouses in Pennington. No detached houses at all. Should we expect there to be more inventory by July? Or do we need to pounce on anything that comes on the market, even if it's a month or two before our move date? Any insight, anyone?

They are fairly small towns so I'm not sure how many houses for rent there are going to be. Personally I would probably jump on anything I liked that came up.

Have you tried to contact a local real estate agent?

I own a 3 year old 3 bedroom home on 1/2 acre that will be avialable mid summer for rental.
Tenants need to relocate and would like to take home with them but obviously can't. Very open floor plan, large master suite and surrounded by farmland. Minutes to Merrill and new hosiptal.
