If you throw in overtime
Then don't schedule overtime. Don't show up for court or the mandatory training. At the end of your scheduled shift, pack up and go home. So what if you are in the middle of a call. Low manpower? Don't answer calls or let them hang for a few hours. Not a problem.
My town has way to many cops , i think its 12 and w/ only a population of 10,000. The Cops are also rude and ignorant. & They Need Cultural sensitivity training. I think alot of New Jersey Towns can cut there forces or at least relocate them to towns that don't have them.
That's good news i know our cops here are always in hiding and only come out to write tickets instead of fighting crime and trying to stop the drug problems around here. And when they pull you over they act like you rob a bank and they are so Rude and Ignorant. And now they are adding Traffic Light Cameras everywhere since the Cameras are doing all the ticket work whats the need for cops?
Now Firefighters,Emt,Teachers we need them they actually work.
I did not interject my personal opinion on my previous post. So I here I go...
I expect above and beyond service for salaries from gov't employees that get paid 80-100k or higher. Especially in areas such as law enforcement. Reality is though, services we receive for minor incidents that police consider trivial...it sucks horribly. When I mean minor incidents, I mean things some jerk hitting your car with his and running away, didn't cause any injury and car damage is less than 2-3k.
If police officers are being paid like 40-50k with few years of experience and 70-80k for detectives in NYPD (base salary)... I would expect nothing for minor incidents because they got more important things to do and for that kind of pay, I would not expect that kind of service. But when police officers and detectives have base salary of 80-100k in suburbs. I expect services rendered even for minor incidents to be excellent...but we don't get that and that pisses people off.
I have 2 friends in NYPD and 1 in Suffolk County PD in New York so it's not one sided bashing.
Where are police officers earning $100k??? Do you have source for that figure??? Or are you just going by hearsay?
This is by no means hear say. Check out salaries yourself as they are public information. That salaries are very nice and even better when you take into account the lack of crime in most suburban towns. I know two cops in New Brunswick and after over time they make 150k. Again dont shoot the messenger.

I went to data universe and looked up my town (Manasquan) I was surprised. There are 16 full time police officers and they average 100K (one only makes 55k but more than half make 110k). I am not in a position to say if that is too much or not, since I have never done their job but I do know dealing with the summer activities are a nightmare.
My question is if you or anyone for that matter, thinks police work is such a cushy gig why don't you do it?

I am very very happy at my job. That being said if I knew then what I know now I would have been a cop 100%. Too little too late I am just past the age. I was offered a spot in NB about 10 years ago but I pretty much turned it down. I have the 2nd best job after a cop so what can I do?

I've checked their salaries and not found very many over $100K. Most of the rare few that are that high are for veteran police of over 20 years or, more often, for higher ranking management and administration (non-union).
If a person makes a claim the burden of proof is on that person. So a person claiming that cushy suburban police jobs commonly pay $100K+ needs to prove it. With no proof, it's hearsay. And a New Brunswick cop is a far cry from a cushy suburban cop; not to mention that I won't believe NB cops make $150K unless I see proof. If the info is public it would be easy to prove, but I am still only seeing anecdote, not real proof.
I keep hearing about all these cops who make over 100k and teachers who also do (and how teachers are "unfirable" ) yet I never see the proof of it. AFAIC it is all hearsay.

It can give you an engine to search police or teacher or whatever. I do not know a single TEACHER who makes 100k (and I am one) but even if the average police officer does make 100k I am in no position to say thats too much. Its an incredibly stressful job that I cannot even imagine.

Honestly you can believe what you want. I agree being a New Brunswick cop is tough and my friends who have mentioned their salaries to me are listed at 98k and 110k without overtime so I am sure they reach the salary they have told me, especially with the overtime these guys pull in. Look at say the list of Cranford cops and you tell me how many are right around 100k without OT. Overtime is never ever listed in public records, trust me I should know.
