Cali is in the 2nd highest category at 15-20%, not exactly the union-free oasis that you paint.

There you go again, posting something that is fact-based!
Don't you know that the purpose of this forum is to espouse wildly inaccurate theories and speculations, along with rumors of nefarious left-wing conspiracies?
NJ is still higher membership than CA according to the chart. I know some of you hate to have NJ get criticized but accept the fact that many parts of CA is easily a better standard of living than NJ. Now get back to the topic.
By comparison, if you lived in Palm Springs at 75K, you would need to make 79K to live in Bergen County. It's all relative since you are generalizing a massive state as "many parts of NJ have a lower cost of living" which doesn't add up.

Sorry if YOU can't handle being criticized for presenting opinion as fact. Glad to get back to the topic, now that your statement is discredited: "I mean, that's Jersey for you. It's a union thug rewards state. Unions exist in CA but they are not nearly as powerful. There's also a sentiment in NJ that if you are in a union and will eventually get a pension, you essentially "made it." In Cali people view it more as a "crutch" and in some cases "pathetic." Entrepreneurism and creativity is king out here."

I can handle that opinion (and you don't pretend to have data this time), just as my opinion is that many parts of NJ have vastly superior quality of life to parts of CA.

You don't have any data either. Roughly how many NJ's fit into size of CA? It's not even comparable.
Show me someone who would rather live in Morristown over San Diego. You won't find many.
Obviously some parts of NJ would be preferable to parts of inland central CA. But on the whole, if my occupation didn't keep me in the NY metro area I would move to CA in a heartbeat. I go to Orange County about twice a year and wish it could be year round.
