65K??? You seem to a be a mid level career guy with kids. I think the company is ripping you off by holding your green card. I have seen this many times with my collegues especially in IT field where small IT companies give green card holders sweat shop wages while holding their green card and threatning to deport them if they did'nt work for them at such a measly rate. Don't do it, even with the promise after years off working you can get your Residency or US citizenship. It is just not worth slaving over, IMHO.

Yeah, 65K is definitely on the low end but there is nothing he can do. His salary in India for the same job is probably $25K. His company is pimping him and likely other relocated employees by saving or profitting twice that amount.

From a different perspective, not many companies are willing to offer work visas, relocation expenses, legal expenses, etc, to employ foreigners. As I recall, work visas last 3yrs, with subsequent renewals of 2yrs, and 1yr. For the IT company, they get hard working low cost employees. Very good business model.

For the employee, this is a tremendous opportunity for better value of life for his family, work hard, and get a greencard. Five or six years later they can switch jobs for much better pay. Five or six years goes by very quick and in the end, their lifes are way better than after five or six years in India.
