Do you buy & eat the homemade food (usually burritos, tamales) sold by vendors who are on the street selling? They often come into the laundromat when we're there. I know most don't have Food Handler Permits which isn't necessarily any guarantee.
I have on occasion, and lived to tell the story. I was buying from someone delivering burritos to my workplace, but it was very hush-hush, which added a mystique to the whole process. I'm not very afraid of food out of trucks since I used to eat a lot of that in my Philadelphia college days.
Some encouraging comments about not getting sick BUT when I want tamales--I'll wait for Hunter Wold's--he makes the BEST ones I've had anywhere and his chicken enchiladas are excellent, too.

Try Navajo Kneel Down Bread, close to Tamales but different. Good luck.
i buy from the roach coach here every couple of weeks. It is by far the best Mexican food here in town. In fact I would go as far as to say its the best food in town, the other restaurants here in town are a joke.

I am sure the stuff is great and fresh, but I am just not comfortable with buying from street venders.
