My family and I recently moved to Tucumcari and would really like to find some good outdoor areas to go hiking and camping and eventually hunting. The problem that we are having is that everything is fenced off, and all the access roads have green and yellow gates, sometimes they are locked andsometimes not, but I don't know if these are public access roads or private property so we haven't crossed them. If they are private it seems like every rancher in this part of the state shops at the same gate supply store, but if they are public I would think they would be marked. If anybody has any info on this it would be great. Also I am trying to find maps that show public lands and private lands and access roads, we don't have a BLM office here so I can't try there, any other ideas????

The Assessor's Office would be very helpful in figuring out who owns what and which public access to use to get to public lands.
