Does anyone know of any drumming circles happening in NM? Ruidoso or Alamogordo, maybe?

I even have a set of drums. ;-) Yes, I know, that isn't what drum circles are all about. I hope I can find a band to play in out there...!

I've played in a drum circle a couple of times, and it can be a lot of fun, depending on how the head drummer runs it. As long as I can improvise, I have a good time.

A drum circle is when a group of people sit or stand around and play drums (african drums for instance) and other percussion instruments.
I have been in circles to where we go at our own rhythm and I have been in circles to where each of us practices certain rhythms and we put them all together. It raises energy. It also puts one into a meditative or trancelike state of mind. Very energizing and relaxing at the same time.
I hope this makes sense to you.
Somebody else may want to put there 2 cents in.

Bring it on, Catman. Any instrument will do and you can improvise. For me, that's what it's all about.

That would be cool for us all to get together. I have extra drums.

I love steel drums. It's amazing how that sound comes out of something like that. The tuning part of it is what I am fascinated by. I like the lower-pitched ones most, since I'm partial (no pun intended) to low frequencies. I play fretless bass, tuba, bass trombone and contrabass clarinet.

It would be difficult to play a drum set at a low enough volume to work in a drum circle. Besides, I'm not a great drummer. I spread myself thin enough as it is! Individual players would be unhappy trying to hear themselves.
