Anyone have any info on Eagles Nest NM. Has anyone been there? I am thinking of making a trip to check it out. It appears to be a nice small town in a mountain valley.

It is absolutely gorgeous there, I don't know what or how else to describe it. I would visit both in the winter and summer, as each season is beautiful in its own right.

I've been there many times. It's a beautiful place. Eagle Nest Lake, right beside the town, is lovely. It does have cold winters.

Gorgeous area, about 25 mile drive to Taos over the mountains.
I think it's pretty much touristy/outside money. I believe it was never a town in itself. In 1978, I worked as a carpenter apprentice on what were then the first condos in the area. Very little population way back then. I lived in a trailer in a field. Stars all around, very desolate for a young woman alone. I gather it has developed all over the area to being quite bustling, but still very pleasant, and the countryside and mountains can't be beat.
There is a very touching Vietnam Vet memorial on the road entering Eagle's Nest, built by a father who lost a son, years before the official memorial in D.C. was built.

"(T)ouristy/outside money" : 'tis the death rattle of so many wonderous places I've lived in (Hawai'i, Colorado, California). Best enjoy it before it's over run with trendy bistro's, Starbucks, Barnes and Noble, Mallwart and Lowes

I've driven over to Eagles Nest on several occasions whilst living in Taos. It's a beautiful drive. In winter there is very little to do except ski, and in summer it is perfect for hiking and outdoor sports.

It has a couple of shops, one excellent cafe/coffee shop, and one main street that comes off the main road.

In my view, it is too isolated for all year living except if you are a serious sports enthusiast; many of the residents are not full time but appear to own units that suit their ski hobby. I only met a handful or less full-time residents, all of whom expressed the hope that the town would grow and expand.

I have been to Eagle Nest several times and I agree it is a wonderful spectacular place. It is also very isolated; I can't imagine it becoming very overrun with tourists and all the shops, restaurants, etc.

Remember there is no "s" at the end of Eagle ... it is Eagle Nest.

Thanks for the reminder.

It is too small to accommodate many shops, but it is definitely a tourist attraction town--for the sports activities.

Expect about a 7 hour drive up from El Paso Muhnay. It is really awesome up there and you also have a great view of the highest mountain in New Mexico i.e. Wheeler Peak 13,161 ft or over a 1,000 ft higher than Sierra Blanca peak at Ruidoso as i know you've been to Ruidoso 100's of times. It really has a Colorado and/or Western Montana feel to it up there.

What was really odd was that out in the middle of nowhere is a ''Subway'' restaurant. The whole ''Enchanted Circle'' is really neat to drive. (Taos, Questa, Red River, Eagle Nest and Angle Fire.....)
