Ha! Thanks guys..maybe I need to stop reading all the negative Facebook posts about NM. The news sites and even some local groups are always saying things like "typical New Mexico" or "what do you expect? It's New Mexico!" whenever something goes wrong. I guess it's all a matter of perspective, like anything else

Are you transferring to a job in Alamo? Just curious as I don't see much industry there: Holloman AFB, public schools, affiliated supports for businesses...

I work from home (freelance writer) so I am taking my job with me, fortunately. My fiance has 20 years in the telecom/fiber optics/cable industry and it looks like those jobs pop up pretty often. I'll be honest: if I did not have my job, I'd probably not move there. I definitely know that jobs there are pretty scarce.

A lot of people's negative impression of Albuquerque is the result of confirmation bias.

If you do google searches like "Crime in Albuquerque" or "Why Albuquerque sucks" all you are going to find is people talking about crime and things that suck.

Also consider that the loudest voices are the voices of the dissatisfied. Content people tend to keep their contentment to themselves.

Crime is pretty low in the Alamogordo area. Things happen from time to time as they do anyway, but I certainly wouldn't lose sleep over it.

I found it... The note my wife gave me a while back. I have not been on Facebook since August 22, 2015...

All my Real Friends have my phone number and e-mail. We keep contact through that means. There are about 10 of us who maintain contact in that fashion...

Go figure.

Alamogordo is pretty tame, overall. Some petty crime and the occasional murder occurs, yes. Usually the killing is done over drugs or...other kinds of crime, but serious crime will not normally be a part of your life there. Alamogordo living is good living.

"I live in Virginia and my fiance and I are planning to move to the High Rolls/La Luz/Alamo. area by the end of the year."

That area is just fine, I wouldn't even worry about it.

The best thing about New Mexico is quite a few people don't know it's a State, unlike those other "new" states: New Hampshire, New York and New Jersey. The Land of Enchantment is the best keep secret. Also, they spell chile pepper correctly as opposed to the stew, chili, for which free lance writers may appreciate. There is definitely a lot of writing material in that state - Santa Fe is the oldest capital in the US, btw.
