Hello All,

I am considering a move to Rio Rancho. (I lived in Albuquerque many years ago and loved it there.) I currently live in Colorado Springs, CO and I am ready for a move, as the climate here with the high altitude and up and down weather has not been to my liking. Because of the barometric pressure changes, I often get bad migraines here. It's also extremely windy here, and the street lights are so dimly lit, I have a hard time driving here at night. It is beautiful in the Springs, but it just isn't for me.

I have heard the Rio Rancho area closer to Albuquerque (87124) has more things close by, such as stores and other businesses. Is this area considered safe, however? I plan on visiting there in the Summer, and want to make my trip as worth while as possible. Any neighborhood recommendations would be greatly appreciated! Any additional information about Rio Rancho would also be helpful.

Thanks everyone for your reply!

Rio Rancho is safe. It has a variety of neighborhoods... Some dense and some more open. It seems a bit windy this spring, more than previous years recently. There is a range of house prices. The areas near the bridges will be more developed and with more commercial stores. I live halfway between the bridges and it is much less developed on the west side of hwy 528. The east side, close to the river, is more densely developed.

Thanks for the reply! However, since I am not familiar with RR, as of yet- could you be more specific with the name of the areas/ neighborhoods near the bridges(?) that are more developed please? Also, I am trying to avoid a neighborhood that is too new, built ultra close together. In other words, maybe something that is relatively newer but with more space around the property; like in many older but still nice neighborhoods.

Where I live currently, the houses are so close together, as well as built right behind my home; no privacy whatsoever. My lot is approx. 5000 sqft. For example, almost every window in my home has a direct view into a neighbor's window, no joke. I didn't realize this would be the case when I bought the home because it was a new build. I much would prefer a nice and established neighborhood with a HOA.

My daughter is still in High School, and a near by school would be great. I researched, and found there's Rio Rancho High in the zip code I am considering.

Thanks again for the info.

On realtor.com you can specify a minimum lot size requirement and won't be shown any listings that do not meet your criteria.
