whoo hooo, Walmart is going to open it's new store here in T or C. Grand Opening is supposed to happen on August 13, 2008! Thank You T or C and Thank You Wally World!
Wal-mart will not improve anything in ToC or anywhere else.
I have a friend who lives in Elephant Butte. This store will improve his gas consumption intake, which currently he 'flips a coin': heads he goes to Soccoro, tails he goes to Las Cruces for groceries.

sorry to hear Wal-Mart has invaded your town, I guess will have to wait and see how many places go out of business in the next year.
I do the very same thing Mike0421's friend does, except I go to cruces all the time (sam's club membership) and I am in agreement with some replies, a few stores will go BELLY UP and, maybe they needed to anyway, because of their pricing policies. The only things we shop for a IGA and Bullocks are Sale or Weekly Flyer items, everything else is priced unreasonably, and you can believe that if you're watching how much you spend. while I don't think wally world will "ruin" the town, it's sure going to squeeze the little mom n pops out. I am like a few others, I won't have to drive 70 miles to save money on everyday items, and will save $$$ on prescriptions!
Folks...let's not go down this road here. This is just going to (as it already has) end up in a anti-Wal Mart versus pro-Wal Mart debate. That debate is best served in the Politics & Other Controversies forum.
We'll lock the thread up. Folks'll still be able to see (if interested) that a new WM is opening in TorC.
Sorry folks...not trying to jump the gun here...but based upon the replies and the like, there just isn't going to be productive debate as it relates to the local economy, just the same tired anti-WM v. pro-WM debate.
