What would you put in your New Mexican version of a hurricane kit?

To put it differently, what should a New Mexican have during a hurricane (while abroad)?

Of course we'll evacuate if it gets too crazy-go-nuts.

I've got my green chile... what else?

It looks like it's going to come in right on top of you. I have lots of family north of the Houston area. One of my sisters lost everything in Rita. Now this one is probably going to be even bigger.
Prayers for everyone down that way.

rybert: Good luck. Here in Fort Worth, it won't be a hurricane, but it's likely to give us a very stormy weekend, perhaps with flooding.

Don't forget your axe.

My wife (a New Orleans native) always said take your axe with you when you climb into the attic in case you have to escape through the roof.
I always laughed at her and called it an old wive's tail, but many people in New Orleans found their axes useful during Katrina.

Now I know why there were so many 1st floor apartments available. We thought we were just lucky.

I think you meant "tale". At least I hope so.

When I first spotted this thread, I thought it was going to be a joke ("A New Mexican's Hurricane Kit")! But hurricanes are definitely serious business. I have a good friend who has family still living in New Orleans. I think the way this country has allowed New Orleans to sit there in ruins for three years is appalling. The levees are one-third finished after three years! Katrina was a once-in-400 years event. Sorry about the nascent rant.

2 oz passion fruit juice
1 oz orange juice
1/2 oz fresh lime juice

Thumbs up A Good Hurricane

That's my idea of a 'hurricane' which does no one any great harm! (In some moderation, of course.)

Whatever it takes to make sopapillas, and one of those "Incense of the West" kits that you can find at Jackalope, preferably the tee-pee one. And a wind up emergency radio.
