Ive lived in New Mexico the Land of Enchantment all my life and i love all the Seasons. Each Season has something exciting about it from the Snow to the Ice to the Rain to the Wind that Cleanses our Air. >>>> Not only do we have the Most Beautiful Sunsets in the World but all the Different Cultures of People are Wonderful everywhere in our State. el pintada kid
I have lived in New Mexico some of my life, and I love the seasons too Kid. I have to say that Fanta Se's seasons are more suitable to my taste. We have a definite four seasons here.
When I lived down in southern New Mexico, the seasons were not so much to my liking. Down there there was summer, dust, wind and then summer again.
To me the Coldest Places in the Southwest are Alamosa, Colorado and the Gallup Grants area and Clines Corners in the center of N.M. with its 7200 elevation. Anything south of the center or southeast and southwest of New Mexico that temps are lots warmer. Albuquerque and Santa Fe have warmer milder winters compared to the center of New Mexico. The Coldest we have gotten this winter is 9 degrees around 3 am about a week ago. The below Zero Temps will be here by the End of December right around New Years. It does and can get to 20 below Zero some winters and even Colder in the Mountains of New Mexico I think it got 5 below in Angel fire N.M. a week ago. QUESTION ... Does anyone know what temperature it has to get before the Trees with all that water in the Tree Trunks Explode? el pintada kid
Trees freezing and exploding is dependant on the salt, sugar and turpentine concentration in the sap as well as the quantity of sap in the trunk. When trees go dormant for the winter much of the sap is stored in the roots. The salt, sugar and turps act as anti freeze like the glycol in your car's coolant.
In fact I love most weather -- but not ice or extreme heat...and I don't think we get much of that here.
I think I left MOST of the ice back in Kansas.
The wind does get a little old at times.
It's not possible to name a favorite season, but I love the winter .... now if it would only snow here!
Amen Towanda! I grew up in Minnesota, so you know I have done my share of scraping ice off windshields and shoveling snow off of sidewalks and driveways. All I have to do is look at the high temp in Minneapolis today and I know I made a good move those many years ago when I left.
I may not be a native, but I have lived here long enough to be a quasi-native. Plus, I think that makes it even more special that I could be living anywhere, but I have chosen New Mexico as my home.
I think you have a bit more wind up there in Eldorado than down in Santa Fe.

I don't know -- the place I most felt like I was going to get blown away was the Smith's at St. Michael's and Pacheco last week -- the wind was really howling up on that hill.
